CPL hosts a wet lab for the Lab Animal Research Club (LARC)
This morning, the Lab Animal Research Club (LARC) visited us for a hands-on mouse necropsy wet lab.
LARC is a student organization affiliated with the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, focused on educating veterinary students about lab animal medicine and supporting career development for those interested in this field. The club organizes talks on topics ranging from intriguing lab animal case studies to career and residency panels exploring job opportunities as a lab animal veterinarian. In addition, LARC hosts several wet labs each semester, offering students the chance to work with common lab animal species, including mice, rats, rabbits, primates, and fish.
The most recent wet lab, led by Dr. Pedro Ruivo and hosted by CPL, focused on performing a mouse necropsy. The purpose of this lab is to familiarize students with the anatomy of mice, the most commonly used species in lab research. Given the unique anatomical features of rodents, this necropsy session aims to build students’ confidence in necropsy techniques while highlighting the similarities and differences between rodent and domestic animal anatomy. Here at CPL, we remain dedicated to training the future generation of lab animal veterinarians!
