Serology
Serological testing is a key component of a well-managed Health Surveillance program. Many university-based animal care programs as well as many commercial biotech companies subscribe to our services in order to ensure confidence in the health of their colonies. The Serology service uses advanced, state-of-the-art Luminex Multiplexed Fluorometric bead-based Immunoassay technology, in conjunction with conventional ELISA and IFA methods. These technologies support comprehensive screening panels for rodent viral and bacterial pathogens. The use of multiplexed serological testing systems is becoming the standard of the industry, and CPL is committed to helping our clients achieve compliance to industry health standards.
We have many levels of serological panels tailored to meet the needs of quarterly, semi-annual and annual sentinel monitoring programs. We typically screen mice but can serologically screen rats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, and voles for exposure to pertinent infectious disease agents. Our staff is experienced and assist you with any questions or concerns.

Submissions
You can submit live animals or serum samples. Preferred serum sample volumes for testing:
- For any single etiology serological testing, a minimum of at least 25-30 uL of serum is needed to perform the assay.
- For our more comprehensive panels, we prefer a minimum of at least 100 uL of serum.
If you cannot obtain the preferred amount of serum, we can dilute your specimen to perform testing, but please call us to check on feasibility. If needed, whole blood may be submitted instead of serum. Specimens are best preserved and transported refrigerated at 2-8°Centigrade. Ship specimens via overnight priority mail, using insulated containers with well-frozen ice packs.
Preferred sample collection tubes for submission
0.5-2.0 ml screw top vials and/or gold top (serum separator) microtainer tubes containing gel are preferred for sample submissions. As long as tops are securely closed, 1.5 ml eppendorf tubes will also be sufficient.
